Heating System Installation
Choosing and Installing the Right Heating System
Whether you’re heating an addition, converting from oil or electric baseboard, or adding heat to a seasonal home you want to use year-round, the first question is which type of system fits.
We help you compare furnaces, heat pumps, dual-fuel setups, and ductless heat for your specific house, then install the system you choose.

Comparing your heating options
A high-efficiency gas furnace delivers strong, fast heat and works well where natural gas is available and ductwork is already in place. A heat pump moves heat instead of burning fuel, handles both heating and cooling, and suits our mild coastal winters well.
Dual-fuel systems combine both. The heat pump handles most days, and the furnace takes over on the coldest nights. Ductless heat pumps are a good fit for additions, finished attics, and homes without ducts.
The right choice depends on fuel availability, your electrical service, existing ductwork, and how the house is used. We’ll go over operating costs as well as installation cost so you can see the full picture.
What affects the cost of heating installation
Every home is quoted individually. These are the main cost drivers.
- System type
- Furnace, heat pump, dual-fuel, and ductless systems vary in equipment and labor.
- Fuel and utilities
- Gas line work or electrical upgrades may be needed.
- Ductwork
- Existing ducts reduce cost; new duct runs add to it.
- Efficiency
- Condensing furnaces and cold-climate heat pumps cost more up front.
- Venting
- High-efficiency furnaces need PVC venting and a condensate drain.
- Zones
- Multiple zones or indoor units add equipment and controls.

Heating Installation questions
Which is cheaper to run, a heat pump or a gas furnace?
It depends on local gas and electric rates and how efficient each system is. In our mild coastal climate heat pumps often compare well, and we can estimate operating costs for both during the visit.
Can I switch from oil heat to a heat pump?
Yes. If you have existing ductwork it can often be reused. Homes with radiators or baseboard may be better suited to ductless heat pumps.
Do I need gas service for a furnace?
Natural gas furnaces need a gas line. In areas without gas service, a heat pump or propane furnace may be the better option.
Will a new heating system require a permit?
Most heating installations in New Jersey require a permit and inspection. We’ll explain what applies to your job.
