Furnace Replacement

Gas Furnace Replacement Done Safely and Sized Right

An old furnace can keep running long after it stops running well. Rising gas bills, uneven heat, and more frequent repairs are usually the first signs.

We check your current furnace for safety, size a replacement to your home, and handle the venting, gas, and duct connections a new furnace needs.

What goes into a furnace replacement

The biggest choice is efficiency. Standard-efficiency furnaces vent through a metal flue or chimney. High-efficiency condensing furnaces extract more heat from the gas and vent through PVC pipe, which means a new vent route and a condensate drain.

If you have central AC, the indoor coil sits on top of the furnace. When replacing the furnace, we check whether the coil is compatible and in good condition, since a mismatched or leaking coil will cause problems later.

We also check the gas line size, the chimney if it’s being abandoned or shared with a water heater, and the duct connections. A new furnace connected to leaking or undersized ducts won’t deliver what you’re paying for.

Repair or replace your furnace?

We’ll always tell you if there’s a safety issue first. Beyond that, here’s how we weigh furnace repair against replacement.

Repair usually makes sense when

  • The furnace is under about 15 years old
  • The problem is an igniter, flame sensor, or inducer motor
  • Combustion and venting test safe
  • It has been reliable until now

Replacement is worth pricing when

  • The heat exchanger is cracked
  • The control board or blower motor failed on an older unit
  • It’s a low-efficiency model and gas bills are high
  • Rooms heat unevenly due to oversizing
  • You’re also replacing your AC

What affects the cost of furnace replacement

Every furnace replacement is quoted after a visit. These are the main factors.

Efficiency (AFUE)
Condensing furnaces cost more but use less gas.
Venting
New PVC vent runs and condensate drains for high-efficiency models.
Blower type
Variable-speed blowers improve comfort and cost more.
AC coil
Replacing the coil at the same time if it’s old or incompatible.
Gas line
Upsizing gas piping if needed.
Chimney liner
A water heater left alone in the chimney may need a liner.

Furnace Replacement questions

Is a high-efficiency furnace worth it?

In most homes that heat through the winter, yes. Savings depend on gas prices and how much you heat. For seasonal homes with low heating use, a standard-efficiency model may make more sense.

What happens to my water heater if the furnace no longer uses the chimney?

A water heater left alone in an oversized chimney may not vent properly. It may need a chimney liner or its own venting, which we check during the estimate.

Should I replace my AC when I replace the furnace?

If your AC is more than about 10 years old, replacing both together is often more cost-effective and ensures the indoor coil and blower are matched.

How long does furnace replacement take?

Usually one day for a straightforward swap. Venting changes or coil replacement may add time.
