Heat Pump Maintenance

Heat Pump Maintenance for Systems That Run All Year

Your heat pump cools all summer and heats all winter, so it gets twice the run time of a standalone AC or furnace. Twice-yearly maintenance keeps up with that workload.

We service ducted and ductless heat pumps across Cape May County, with extra attention to the salt and sand that build up on coastal outdoor units.

Spring and fall, each with a purpose

In spring we focus on cooling: cleaning the outdoor coil, checking refrigerant charge, testing the capacitor and contactor, and clearing the condensate drain. In fall we focus on heating: defrost controls, reversing valve, outdoor sensors, and backup heat strips.

Both visits include an airflow check, blower inspection, electrical tests, and thermostat review, so small problems get caught twice a year instead of once.

What each visit includes

  1. Step 1

    Clean coils

Outdoor coil rinsed and cleaned of salt, pollen, and debris.

  2. Step 2

    Test refrigerant

Pressures and temperatures checked against specs.

  3. Step 3

    Check controls

Defrost, reversing valve, backup heat, and thermostat tested.

  4. Step 4

    Inspect and report

Electrical, blower, and drain checked; findings shared with you.

Why heat pump maintenance pays off

Efficient heating

Keeps the heat pump doing the work instead of costly backup heat.

Corrosion control

Regular coil cleaning slows salt damage on coastal units.

Fewer surprises

Weak capacitors and failing sensors replaced before a breakdown.

Longer service life

Less strain on the compressor in both seasons.

Systems we maintain

  • Ducted heat pumps
  • Ductless mini-splits
  • Dual-fuel systems
  • Packaged heat pumps

Heat Pump Maintenance questions

How often should a heat pump be serviced?

Twice a year, in spring and fall, since it runs in both seasons.

What can I do between visits?

Keep the outdoor unit clear of snow, leaves, and plants, rinse the coil with fresh water after salt spray, and check the filter monthly.

Is heat pump maintenance different from AC maintenance?

Yes. In addition to the cooling checks, heat pumps need their reversing valve, defrost controls, and backup heat tested.

Do you maintain mini-split heat pumps too?

Yes. For mini-splits we also offer a deep cleaning service for the indoor heads.
